Were they afraid we were planning a coup d'etat?
I spent my first summer during Columbia Law School at a firm in Philadelphia described as one of the best places in the city for black lawyers. I believed that if there was any place where I would have an equal chance at opportunities, be treated fairly and succeed, this would be it. There were three black female summer associates out of sixty that year but any time all three of us were in an office talking, one of the partners would knock on the door to see how we were doing. It happened too often to be a coincidence that sometimes we would purposely agree to meet in so-and-so's office to test our theory that we were being monitored. Like clock work, ten minutes after we would get together a partner would stop by.
Advice to Company
I would have stayed if all people had been treated with genuine respect.
Corporate should have properly investigated the claim.
I would have stayed in my previous position if the background check was conducted prior to the issuing of an offer letter.
I would prefer that I were included in various decisions that affected me and others.
I would have preferred that the CEO had sought my clarification before passing judgment on something she didn't understand.
I would have stayed if the company cared more about their employees and their input. The company was bought out by an investment company whose sole interest was to make money.
The loyalty of your employees is key to growing a successful business. The suggestions and ideas of your loyal employees will assist with future growth.
I would have stayed if I had been treated with more respect. I was offered a significant raise after submitting my notice, but it was too late to keep me around.
I would have stayed if I could take a pay cut and work only 12 hours a day; and if I knew exactly which weekends I could definitely have off.
I would have stayed if I were able to move to the training group and develop sessions and work with new customers.
